books i have started reading but haven't finished (yet)May 15, 2009

fiction

  1. everything is illuminated by jonathan safran foer (ongoing, 165 of 276) - my favorite book ever since i had a favorite. it's so funny i have to keep myself from bringing it out in public. it's a shame to put it down on february. if neverwhere wasn't so bad (thought subject to change), i wouldn't have returned to this.
  2. neverwhere by neil gaiman (2 of 388) - lent to me by a fan but stopped on page 2 when faced with "he was a fresh-faced, boyish young man, with dark, slightly curly hair and large hazel eyes..." nostalgia?? sweet valley anyone? hold your horses gaiman fans, i'm not judging it. yet. then again, i may just be outside the target market. that "dark alice in wonderland" testimonial is tempting.
  3. the eaten heart: unlikely tales of love by giovanni boccaccio (48 of 120) - a collection of amusing short shorts
  4. lady chatterley's lover by d.h. lawrence (182 of 313) - lovely writing and exciting story! i stopped at the exciting bit. can't wait to get back to this!
  5. don quixote by cervantes (126 of 1050) - the bulkness of the book may be intimidating but this is one jewel and i cannot remember why i stopped reading this and found it in one of my boxes!
  6. the bell jar by sylvia plath (26 of 296) - i think it was the era of short attention span and weak concentration that i wasn't able to move past page 26
  7. soul mountain by gao xingjian (108 of 506) - this book is so creepy it's an oracle. meant to be reopened in its right time.
  8. notes from underground and the grand inquisitor by fyodor dostoevsky (9 of 238) - i don't remember any (i may not have understood)

nonfiction

  1. the artist's way by julia cameron (40 of 222) - stopped as soon as i stopped writing everyday for 30 minutes upon awakeness, which was the deal. it was a wrong move putting it back on the shelf, else i'd have already attained higher creativity! scheduled to be back on program next week.
  2. free prize inside by seth godin (lost bookmark, est: 74 of 239) - no technicalities to fend me off here but i couldn't find any use for the marketing strategies. then. after reading the 4-hour work week last week, i've been in search of muse. this one just might help.
  3. drawing on the right side of the brain by betty edwards (59 of 207) - intimidated by the amount of drawing practice suggested. hmm.
